British & Irish Masters XC at Stormont -
Tuesday, November 20, 2007

The course was magnificent in every way. The feed back without exception was positive. The NIAF Officials carried out as usual a sterling job from time keeping to marshalling and the many other tasks that make an event successful. We are so grateful to the many club members who gave their time and support. The clean up of the course was done in a fast and efficient way.

The Stormont staff pulled out all the stops. Any request for help was given without question.

The 3 International races were hotly contested at both Team and Individual medals were hotly contested.

The Ladies International was keenly contested with Wendy Nichols of England winning in a time of 22.54 for the 6K race.

The outstanding performance by an N.Ireland athlete was Karen Marshall’s achievement in winning the W50 race. This was Karen’s ninth age win, and she remains unbeaten in this competition in her age range.

The N.Ireland mens 60 Team won a bronze medal with Jim Patterson, Gerry Lynch, Jim Hayes and Brian Smith.

In the men’s 35-49 International we had two outstanding individual performances with Steve Cairns finishing 3rd in the overall race and Dave Morwood won the M35 race to take the Gold medal. The men’s 35 Team also won the Silver Team medal Dave Morwood, Paul Carroll, Gregory Walsh, Neil Douglas, Mark Wright and Ian Barrett.

The winner of the 35-49 8K race was Robert Quinn, Scotland in a time of 27.52.
