McKinney struck gold in the Northern Ireland and Ulster championships
at Castle Park Bangor. The Letterkenny athlete drew clear of the 200 strong
field early on along with Alan Mccullough,David Morwood and Kieran Carlin.
At half distance it was Mckinney from Mccullough with Pauric going on
to win by 26 seconds. Finn Valley were easy team winners.
Matt Shields M50, Terry Eakin M55 and Gerry Lynch M60 won their sections
along with Jim Boyd M65. Karen Marshall retained her lady vets crown after
a race long duel with 2004 winner Bridie Trearty. Lagan Valley were top
team. Michelle Sturm won both Junior and Intermediate titles The Junior/Intermediate
crown went to Patrick Cassidy of Glaslough ahead of the Abbey pairing
of Damien Thillaye Du Boullay and Paul Pollock. City of Derry achieved
the rare feat of retaining the team title by 6 points over North who were
led by Stephen Scullion in 4th.
